Genesis 1-2; Psalm 1

The consistent themes that run through God’s Word point to a single author.

Genesis 1 opens with a clear division between light and darkness.

Genesis 1 also describes the natural order of each creature or plant reproducing after its own kind.

Genesis 2 speaks specifically of the creation of humanity in God’s image.

Genesis 2 reveals a command that would keep humanity on a good path, in line with all the good that God created.

Many hundreds of years later we come to the first Psalm.

There we find a clear division between light and darkness, good and evil.

There we see that walking with evil leads to standing with evil and ultimately sitting with evil. Sin leads to sin.

However, the good man chooses to delight in God’s Word, and so he grows and prospers according to God’s blessings in his life.

Psalm 1 describes what God created man to be. It shows what was lost in Eden. But it gives hope that it can be restored.
