“The Lord was with Him” 1/3: Seen to Walk with God

Scripture: Genesis 39:1-6

Key Verse: “And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. ” – Genesis 39:3

Joseph’s life illustrates what it looks like to walk with God through the highs and lows. In Genesis 39, we see Joseph endure immense changes—from being sold into slavery to becoming a servant in Potiphar’s house. Yet, despite his circumstances, Joseph remained steadfast in his relationship with God.

What stands out is that Joseph didn’t allow his external circumstances to dictate his internal faith. The text says, “The LORD was with Joseph,” and that wasn’t just a passive presence—it was an active blessing. God was with Joseph through every moment of hardship, and Joseph’s life flourished because of it. This wasn’t about Joseph being perfect, but rather about his unwavering focus on the Lord.

Joseph’s walk with God was evident in how he lived. People around him could see it. Although Potiphar did not know Jehovah, Joseph lived in a way that stood out. Potiphar saw that everything Joseph did was blessed, and as a result, he entrusted him with greater responsibility. Potiphar did not just notice that what Joseph did prospered, but that he had integrity and was a hard worker. Joseph could be trusted to get the job done.

Application:
How evident is your walk with God in your life? Do those around you see God in the way you live, work, and treat others? Just like Joseph, we can allow our relationship with God to shine through even the most difficult circumstances, showing the world that He is with us and that His presence makes all the difference.
