This is a Christmas message I prepared a few years ago and published in Faith’s recent "Beacon" publication. By the grace of God we distributed 1500 in our community.
Without fail at this time of year people dust off their old decorations and begin transforming their homes into demonstrations of the festive spirit. Christmas trees go up, shiny ornaments hang from the ceilings, flashing lights and animated models appear outside people’s homes.
The shops put on the same music they have been playing for the past 20 years; the quantity of food and drink sold more than doubles. Cards are sent in their millions to the person next door and to friends on the other side of the world. The religious perhaps get out a nativity scene to add to their decorated homes and a few even make their annual appearance at some church. However, Christ is largely neglected. While there is nothing inherently wrong in enjoying the decorations, the gifts and all the trappings of the festive spirit there is something drastically wrong when the whole meaning behind Christmas gets forgotten and even rejected.
