One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. – Psalm 145:4
The Psalmist makes a connection between constant praise and the communication of God and His works. Because his praise would be constant, others would know about God and His unsearchable greatness. Under the Mosaic Law, God told Israel to speak of His Word when they sat down when they got up when they walked together, and the Word was to be around them, on them, and ultimately it would be a part of them. If repetition truly is the key to learning, then someone who constantly praises God will inevitably teach about God.
The most effective teacher does not simply impart truth but does so with passion and a personal connection. David revealed not simple knowledge, but a relationship with the God of creation.
The apostles who sung in the dungeon testified to the other prisoners and the guards that they served the one true God. Their joyful confidence clearly communicated to everyone around them. In his epistles, Paul the Apostle regularly breaks into praise after making statements sharing doctrine. The truth about God and His Word is never dry and boring, but always life-giving and powerful. This combination of truth and worship contributes to the effectiveness of Paul.
Consider these “I will” statements by the Psalmist in Psalm 145,
“I will extol thee, my God, O king; I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; I will praise thy name for ever and ever. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. and I will declare thy greatness.”
If we have the same determination we will inevitably communicate about God to the next generation.
