Books have been written on the subject, and what I offer here is just a brief outline of some of my goals in raising my son. I believe I could easily expand these points into a series of articles along with Scripture references. Unfortunately, right now, I just don’t have the time. However, I thought I’d share them as they are and perhaps they’ll be a help to others.
A Man of God
His privileges and responsibilities before God.
- He knows God
- He loves God
- He listens to God
- He worships God (prayer and praise)
- He follows God
A Man Alone
How he should live if he were trapped on a desert island.
- Exercises Self-control, discipline, balance.
- Has goals and aspirations/life-long growth
- Financial Responsibility/Stewardship
- Knows how to handle failure and success
- Diligent, determined, and hopeful
A Man in Society
His responsibility and influence in his community.
- He works hard
- He strives for peace
- He has compassion and cares others
- Demonstrates initiative and leadership
- Participates in, but is not absorbed and driven by his culture.
A Man in His Home
Who he is toward his wife and children.
- He leads well (spiritual, emotional, financial, mental, educates)
- He leads with love and gentleness
- He provides for his family
- He protects his family
- He sacrifices for his family.
