Raising Boys to Be Men

Books have been written on the subject, and what I offer here is just a brief outline of some of my goals in raising my son. I believe I could easily expand these points into a series of articles along with Scripture references. Unfortunately, right now, I just don’t have the time. However, I thought I’d share them as they are and perhaps they’ll be a help to others.

A Man of God

His privileges and responsibilities before God.

  • He knows God
  • He loves God
  • He listens to God
  • He worships God (prayer and praise)
  • He follows God

A Man Alone

How he should live if he were trapped on a desert island.

  • Exercises Self-control, discipline, balance.
  • Has goals and aspirations/life-long growth
  • Financial Responsibility/Stewardship
  • Knows how to handle failure and success
  • Diligent, determined, and hopeful

A Man in Society

His responsibility and influence in his community.

  • He works hard
  • He strives for peace
  • He has compassion and cares others
  • Demonstrates initiative and leadership
  • Participates in, but is not absorbed and driven by his culture.

A Man in His Home

Who he is toward his wife and children.

  • He leads well (spiritual, emotional, financial, mental, educates)
  • He leads with love and gentleness
  • He provides for his family
  • He protects his family
  • He sacrifices for his family.
