Scripture Reading: Genesis 37:2; Romans 12:2; Proverbs 1
On Sunday we continued our series of sermons at Bedford Bible Church going through the Book of Genesis. We’re picking back up after a short break with the life of Joseph.
This week I’m posting some brief, devotional thoughts on my blog. You can listen to the whole service and sermon here: https://bedfordbiblechurch.sermon.net/main/main/22358612
Joseph’s life is defined, largely, by his integrity, faith, and forgiveness.
Perspectives
At just 17 years old, Joseph displayed remarkable integrity. His diligence in labor, discernment in righteousness, and loyalty to his father set him apart. He didn’t go along with his brothers’ sinful behavior, even when it brought him resentment. Joseph’s actions were rooted in a Godly perspective—choosing to do right, no matter the cost.
This perspective is vital for us as believers. Romans 12:2 reminds us not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Joseph’s light revealed the darkness in his brothers’ lives. Similarly, our commitment to Godly living may provoke resistance, but it is our faithfulness that glorifies God.
- Are you willing to stand for righteousness even when it is unpopular?
- How can you develop discernment to distinguish not only between what is right and wrong but what is nearly right and nearly wrong?
