Scripture: Genesis 24:62-67
The story of Isaac and Rebekah concludes with a beautiful picture of God’s plan coming together. Isaac, who had been mourning the loss of his mother, finds comfort in Rebekah. Two lives, previously unknown to each other, are brought together in a union that would continue God’s covenant line. A meeting ordained in heaven had now occurred on earth.
This narrative is not just about a marriage arrangement; it’s a glimpse into how God works to fulfill His greater purposes. From Abraham’s faith to send his servant, to Rebekah’s willingness to go, to Isaac’s patient waiting – each played a part in God’s unfolding plan. Not only for their own personal lives, but in God’s covenant purpose for Abraham, Israel, and the world.
In our own lives, we may not always understand how our current circumstances fit into God’s bigger picture. Like Rebekah, we’re often called to step out in faith, trusting that God is leading us. Like Isaac, we may find ourselves in seasons of waiting, unsure of what God is doing.
Romans 8:28 assures us, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” This doesn’t mean everything will always be easy, but it does mean that God is always at work, weaving our stories into His greater purpose.
Today, consider where you are in your journey. Are you in a season of stepping out, like Rebekah, or waiting, like Isaac? Wherever you find yourself, trust that God is at work. He sees the end from the beginning, and He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you. We have a wonderful promise in Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ…”. Take heart, and look forward with hope to how God will unfold His beautiful plan in your life. It will not always be painless, but it will always have purpose.
