Part 2: Faith Empowers Us to Help Others Despite Our Circumstances
Genesis 40:9-22
Even in prison, Joseph had the wisdom, compassion, and faith in God to look beyond his own suffering and recognize the needs of others. He noticed the sadness of Pharaoh’s butler and baker, and he took the time to ask them what was troubling them (Genesis 40:6-7). This simple act of compassion shows that Joseph’s heart was focused on God rather than on self-pity.
Joseph did not just sympathize with them; he pointed them to God. When they shared their dreams, he immediately declared, “Do not interpretations belong to God?” (Genesis 40:8). He acknowledged that wisdom and guidance come from God alone.
Joseph was faithful to deliver both good and bad news. He did not sugarcoat God’s message to the baker. We must be faithful in sharing God’s truth, even when it is difficult.
- Looking to God in hardship allows us to see and help others in their struggles.
- Our wisdom comes from God’s Word, not human reasoning.
- Faithfulness to God’s truth means sharing both encouragement and warnings.
Are you so focused on your own struggles that you miss the opportunity to minister to others? Ask God to help you see beyond your own pain to encourage those around you.
