Why Another Commentary?

Why do I feel qualified to write a commentary? Why do we need another commentary? I think the answers to these two questions overlap and so I’ll deal with them together.

I enjoy many different commentaries from a wide a variety of authors who have represent several theological backgrounds. But of those, most do not entirely line up with the way I and many others view certain doctrines.

So, I believe there is a need.

The Pulpit and Pew series is written from a dispensational, provisionist, King James Version, Baptist perspective. My hermeneutic is literal, historical, grammatical, and contextual.

These convictions provide the theological framework for studying and explaining the Scriptures.

However, the series is not written to fully explain, defend, or propagate a particular theological system, but simply to approach the Bible and explain them from that framework.

That, in part, answers why we need another commentary and why, despite my limitations, I am writing one. I don’t necessarily feel qualified, but I see a need, and I want to do my best to meet that need.
